Jerome Petty - Guitarist, Vocalist
Jerome Petty, aka JP, has always loved all types of
music since the tender age of 10. He was drawn to the
sound of the guitar when he picked up his younger
brother's broken two string ukulele. Miraculously, he
was able to pick out tunes with the two strings with little
or no effort. By the time he was 13, Jerome had studied
guitar books to learn chords and notes on his own.
Jerome graduated from Virginia State University where
he played with the local jazz band and recorded his first
recording with The Virginia State Gospel Choir. While
playing with several jazz and blues bands, he
auditioned for a lead guitar position with a mega church
in Maryland.
Jerome has performed with countless gospel greats
including Byron Cage, Kirk Franklin, Richard
Smallwood, Dottie Peables, Dorothy Norwood, BeBe
Winans and Yolanda Adams. He has also recorded with
Patrick Lundy and the Ministers of Music, Timothy
Wright and Bobby Jones.
Jerome met Mercer Lee through Kenny Gross, who
asked Mercer to play in another band with him. Jerome
was the guitar player for that band. When that band
broke up, Jerome joined Mercer and Kenny to form
Wellington & Company. Jerome is now a part of the
AKAThisIsUs family.
JP is often called for lead guitar positions in Jazz, Blues,
Gospel, Studio and live concerts. He also sings and has
written numerous songs which he hopes to record in the
near future.
